X-Currency

The Katanga tribe from the Southeast Congo (formerly Zaire) made these cast copper crosses as a form of currency. For centuries these crosses served as indications of wealth and were used for dowry payments and trade as well as funerary rites. Once a single cross would buy around six chickens in the Congo, today they are collectable conversation pieces.
